California Governor Extends Executive Order on Evictions
In one of the first executive orders targeting evictions, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an order on March 16, 2020, which lifted restrictions on a local government’s authority to impose limitations on residential and commercial evictions. That order was to expire May 31, 2020 unless extended.
On May 29, 2020, Governor Newsom signed Executive Order N-66-20 extending the eviction provisions of his March 16, 2020 order 60-days, or until July 28, 2020. The extension of the order gives local governments additional time to make further changes to laws governing evictions.
