Lani Fu is an Associate in our Corporate, Tax, and Trust & Estate Planning Practice Groups.
Ms. Fu earned her Juris Doctor in 2018 from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where she focused on Tax Law and graduated with Honors. This concentration included courses in Advanced Tax Research and Planning, Business Planning, State Income Tax Clinic and Corporate Taxation. While in school, Ms. Fu spent a year working in Loyola’s Bankruptcy Clinic, where she met with clients and drafted Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Ms. Fu served as a Litigation Extern to the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Chief Counsel, where she managed cases docketed before U.S. Tax Court; represented the IRS by drafting subpoenas, motions and discovery letters to taxpayers; and negotiated and conducted settlement conferences.
After graduation, she worked as a Tax Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she researched and reviewed trusts, family partnerships, private foundations, gift tax returns and complex estate planning documents. Ms. Fu handled issues regarding valuation of assets and division, as well as allocation of trusts; and drafted correspondence to various Departments of Revenue, and in response to corporate and individual state notices.
While working toward a bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of California at Los Angeles, Ms. Fu interned for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, later assisting as a campaign intern. Ms. Fu is admitted to practice in the State of California.
