  • Andrew L. Shapiro is the Chair of our Personal Injury Practice Group. He has extensive experience in litigating serious accident, injury and wrongful death cases, helping the seriously injured and their families attain fair compensation for their losses.

    Specializing in all phases of negligence and personal injury litigation, Mr. Shapiro has obtained multi-million dollar settlements, awards and verdicts for those he represents. A forceful litigator, adept mediator and unbiased arbitrator, Mr. Shapiro fights aggressively for our clients in court, or obtains settlements for those clients who prefer alternatives to the trial process.

    Under his counsel, Mr. Shapiro leads clients in a suit against Johnson & Johnson and a subsidiary, for defective medical products such as the DePuy metal on metal hip replacement device. Mr. Shapiro has also filed suit against:

    Mr. Shapiro’s track record allows him to negotiate from a position of strength, knowing that if discussions with the other side fail, he will go to trial for our clients, who represent a broad range of individuals or their surviving parents, spouses and children. Mr. Shapiro represents:

    Mr. Shapiro’s arbitration and jury trial experience is well-regarded by his peers, garnering him a 5.0 Preeminent AV rating by Martindale Hubbell – the rating reflects the highest level of legal ability and ethical standards awarded by the bar and judiciary. Mr. Shapiro holds a spotless record for ethics throughout the state of California, and has maintained this status for over 40 years. He has been featured annually in Los Angeles Magazine's list of Southern California’s Super Lawyers, and is also named Best Lawyer in America for Personal Injury Litigation - Plaintiffs, by Best Lawyers Magazine, each year since 2018.

    Commencing in 1974, Mr. Shapiro has served on the Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association. He previously served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Municipal Court, and has handled over 1,500 cases Pro Bono, as a Settlement Officer, Arbitrator and Mediator for Los Angeles and Ventura County Superior Courts.

    Mr. Shapiro is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles and the Consumer Attorneys of California. He is admitted to practice before all courts in the state of California.

    Before joining our Firm, Mr. Shapiro earned his law degree from Loyola University in 1971. While at Loyola School of Law, he became certified under the Practical Training Program for law students. Through his efforts, the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Courts in Los Angeles allowed law students to represent clients in actual courtroom proceedings for the first time. He also earned a Certificate from the Pepperdine University School of Law's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, in Mediation Techniques.

    Mr. Shapiro received his bachelor's degree from California State University, Northridge in 1968, where he majored in philosophy. The injury lawyer joined Lewitt Hackman as a Shareholder in 1980.
