  • Maurice Lewitt is a Los Angeles business attorney with a master’s degree in business administration – and hands-on career experience valuable to clients – in all legal and practical aspects of setting up, financing, and operating businesses.

Mr. Lewitt opened his Beverly Hills law offices in 1956, primarily representing individual health care practitioners and other business owners as the land boom exploded in the San Fernando Valley.

Prompted by the population growth in the Valley during the 1950s and 1960s, many physicians established practices and sponsored hospitals and other medically-related businesses. Mr. Lewitt assisted this expanding group with their needs in litigation and health care law matters.

Mr. Lewitt served as CEO of a public health care company and advises clients particularly in:

    • Formation & Re-Structuring of Entities
    • Complex Financing Transactions
    • Acquisitions of Commercial Assets
    • Mergers of Corporate Entities
    • Implementation of Shareholder Agreements
    • Corporate Restructure Agreements
    • Buy/Sell Agreements
    • Commercial Real Estate Purchases & Leases
    • Equipment Purchases & Leases
    • Construction Contracts
Mr. Lewitt and a CPA partner formed a first public company, SETCO, Inc. in the late 1960’s. The company purchased, built, owned and operated acute general hospitals and ancillary service entities, among which, Tarzana Hospital was opened in 1973 in the San Fernando Valley. After subsequent sales it is now known as The Providence Tarzana Medical Center.

In setting up and operating medical entities, Mr. Lewitt, as Chief Executive Officer, oversaw thousands of employees in facilities globally, such as medical facilities in the United Kingdom, France and Guam; and provided consulting services in the United Emirates.

Mr. Lewitt served as Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Setco, Inc., a publically held company. After the sale of that company to Hyatt Corporation, he served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Hyatt Medical Enterprises, Inc., and joined the Board of Directors of Hyatt Corporation.

In 1982, Mr. Lewitt became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Nu-Med, Inc., a healthcare provider public company.

Mr. Lewitt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and his MBA from Kent State University. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Ohio State University Law School in 1954.

He is a member of the State Bars of California and Ohio, and is also a member of the American, Los Angeles County, and Beverly Hills Bar Associations, and was a member of the International Hospital Federation. He has served on various committees of the Federation of American Hospitals.

Mr. Lewitt is “Of Counsel” to Lewitt Hackman. He serves as a Neutral and Mediator for the American Arbitration Association, and has served as a Settlement Officer in the Voluntary Settlement Conference Program for the Los Angeles County Superior Court, and the California Court of Appeal 2nd Appellate District. The Los Angeles business attorney was the 1993 recipient of the Humanism in Medicine Award from Western University of Health Care Sciences of Pomona, California.
