  • Leon Lewitt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University in 1960, with a major in finance. He received his Juris Doctor in 1963 from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was designated a member of Master of the Rolls for excellence in academic achievement.

    In 1969, Mr. Lewitt co-founded the predecessor to Lewitt Hackman.

    He has devoted a substantial portion of his professional career to structuring, negotiating and handling mergers, acquisitions and divestitures in a variety of industries, as well as advising health care providers – including hospitals and physicians groups – in addition to handling real estate and general corporate and business matters. He has served on the boards of directors of publicly owned companies.

    Mr. Lewitt is a member of the State Bar of California and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California and the U.S. Supreme Court, is a member of various local bar associations, and a member of the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys.

    Mr. Lewitt has:

      • Handled significant mergers, acquisitions and transactions ranging from small to medium sized businesses to representation of public companies doing their financing and mergers and acquisition work.
      • Handled transactions in California, nationally, and internationally.
      • Advised clients in a variety of industries including hotel, restaurant, manufacturing, intellectual property, health care, garment, retail, insurance agencies, accounting firms and other service enterprises.
      • Successfully structured and negotiated shareholder and partner buy-ins/outs, as well as disputes related to multi-party ownership.
      • Rendered services to professional practices such as accounting firms and medical practitioners and groups, and has represented them in purchase/sale transactions.
      • Served as counsel to, and on the boards of public companies, and as trustee of a variety of trusts.
      • Acted as an expert witness in corporate litigation and has been consulted with respect to other corporate/contractual matters.
    • Dispute resolution trained.
    Mr. Lewitt is "Shareholder Emeritus" at our firm.
