Barry T. Harlan

Barry T. Harlan is a Los Angeles divorce attorney and a Certified Family Law Specialist designated by the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization.  He represents high net worth individuals in complex divorce matters where the earnings and property of the parties are significant. 

Barry has extensive experience in divorce matters where multiple corporations are owned by the couple and must be distributed between the parties, and in other cases where complex compensation packages or parental fiscal responsibilities must be determined and properly distributed. He also handles Family Law matters where custody and visitation rights are at issue.

When feasible, this team of California Family Law attorneys recommends alternate methods of resolving disputes through the use of mediation or arbitration, which can result in significant time and cost saving benefits for divorcing clients.

Barry also negotiates and drafts pre-nuptial, post-nuptial and cohabitation agreements for clients which potentially save time and litigation costs in the future.  He was involved in the leading published case in California on post-nuptial agreements, entitled Marriage of Burkle.

Designated a Super Lawyer by Los Angeles Magazine from 2004 to 2012, Barry has also been chosen as  one of the Top 25 lawyers in the San Fernando Valley by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. He carries a 5.0 AV Preeminent rating by Martindale Hubbell—reflecting the highest level of legal ability and an ethical standard awarded for an attorney in California, and was also listed as a Best Lawyer in Family Law in the Southern California’s Best Lawyers 2012 Edition of the Los Angeles Times.   

He has been honored by the Van Nuys Superior Court for his efforts in organizing and scheduling attorneys to preside in family law mediation cases, and is also a recipient of the Stanley Lintz Award for outstanding professional and community service, awarded by the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. 

Barry is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and all of the Superior Courts in the State of California. This California divorce attorney currently serves the Los Angeles Superior Court as a Judge Pro Tem and a Family Law Mediator.
