Maurice Lewitt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Kent State University in 1951. In 1954, he received his Juris Doctor degree from Ohio State University Law School. After serving in the U.S. Army Audit Division, he opened his law practice in Beverly Hills, specializing in corporate and health care law. Mr. Lewitt was the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Setco, Inc., a hospital and health care company which subsequently went public. After the sale of that company to Hyatt Corporation, he served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Hyatt Medical Enterprises, Inc., and as a member of the Board of Directors of Hyatt Corporation. In 1982, he became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Nu-Med, Inc.
Mr. Lewitt is a member of the State Bars of California and Ohio, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He is also a member of the American, Los Angeles County, and Beverly Hills Bar Associations, the American Society of Hospital Attorneys, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the International Hospital Federation, and has served on various committees of the Federation of American Hospitals. He also serves as an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and has served as a Settlement Officer in the Voluntary Settlement Conference Program for the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Mr. Lewitt was the 1993 recipient of the Humanism in Medicine Award from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.
