Maurice Lewitt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Kent State University in 1951. In 1954, he received his Juris Doctor degree from Ohio State University Law School. In 2002, he received an MBA degree from Kent State University. After serving in the U.S. Army Audit Division in 1956, he opened his law practice in Beverly Hills, specializing in corporate and health care law. Mr. Lewitt was the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Setco, Inc., a publically held company. After the sale of that company to Hyatt Corporation, he served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Hyatt Medical Enterprises, Inc., was a member of the Board of Directors of Hyatt Corporation. In 1982, he became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Nu-Med, Inc., a health provider public company.

He is also a member of the American, Los Angeles County, and Beverly Hills Bar Associations, and the International Hospital Federation, and has served on various committees of the Federation of American Hospitals. He also serves as a Neutral and Mediator for the American Arbitration Association, and has served as a Settlement Officer in the Voluntary Settlement Conference Program for the Los Angeles County Superior Court, and the Court of Appeal 2nd Appellate District. Mr. Lewitt was the 1993 recipient of the Humanism in Medicine Award from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.
